The Challenge

Chris needed an outdoor staircase to go from his pool downstairs to his gym and office upstairs. He wanted to be able to enjoy his outdoor spaces more without having to go all the way inside the house to move from his balcony to his patio. With a pool downstairs, the staircase needed to be safe for wet feet and very sturdy. Chris’s home is in Florida, so his new staircase also needed to be able to withstand significant rain, heat, and humidity without rusting or degrading while also being beautiful and complementary to the existing structure. The Challenge

Tara has a quaint and cozy condo with a loft she wanted to easily and safely access. With a toddler at home and only a ladder going up to the loft, safety was a high priority. The footprint of the staircase is small enough that it doesn’t impede the space in the room below, and it is much easier for her daughter and parents to get up to and down from the loft using a spiral staircase with a handrail than it would be to use a pull-down ladder. And, ironically, attic ladders frequently have larger footprints than many spiral staircases.
